I know there are a lot of girls out there who don’t follow sports but who love to watch the big games with their boyfriend, fiancé, husband or guy friends. I mean who doesn’t love an excuse to make queso? Commenting on the players hair or shoes can only go so far until your man starts to get annoyed. Don’t worry gals, I have compiled an easy talking point about each team in the 2018 NBA Playoffs so you at least seem like you know what you’re talking about. 😉
East
1. Toronto Raptors
“The Raptors are the number 1 team in the East and since Drake’s “God’s Plan” dropped, they have won 3 times as many games as they’ve lost. Coincidence or Champagne Papi power?”
2. Boston Celtics
“I can’t believe Kyrie Irving is out for the playoffs, this was his time to prove himself without Lebron. I don’t know if the Celtics can do it without him.”
3. Philadelphia 76ers
“It’s been a good year for Philly sports. No one expected to see the 76ers here and it seems like Ben Simmons is definitely the favorite for Rookie of the Year.”
4. Cleveland Cavaliers
“The Cavs have limped into the playoffs with the 29th ranked defensive rating in the regular season, but is anyone going to bet against Lebron not making the finals for the 8th straight season? Not me, that’s for sure.”
5. Indiana Pacers
“Victor Oladipo and the Pacers have flown under the radar all season but have as good a chance as ever to take down Lebron and the Cavs and shock the East.”
6. Miami Heat
“The only chance the Heat have of making it passed the 76ers in round 1 is if their $98 million man, Hassan Whiteside, steps up big time and becomes a force to be reckoned with.”
7. Milwaukee Bucks
“The Bucks have the Greek Freak in Giannis Antetokounmpo and with the Celtics missing Gordon Hayword and Kyrie Irving, they have a real shot.”
8. Washington Wizards
“John Wall and Bradley Beal need to lock in offensively and the entire team needs to step up their perimeter defense if they want to have a chance at shutting down Toronto.”
West
1. Houston Rockets
“James Harden will definitely win MVP this year. Houston has been unconscious from beyond the arc and lock down defenders, if they remain consistent there’s a good chance they will beat out Golden State and make it to the NBA finals.”
2. Golden State Warriors
“The Warriors have struggled with injuries, but it seems like that team has super powers when the playoffs roll around. It’s going to be hard for anyone, besides maybe Houston, to dethrone them.”
3. Portland Trailblazers
“The backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum have carried this squad to their highest seeding since 1999. They’ll have to continue to play like All Stars to make it through the West.”
4. Oklahoma City Thunder
“The Thunder’s Big 3 (Carmelo Anthony, Paul George & Russell Westbrook) definitely underperformed this season but those 3 are future Hall of Famers who have the ability to flip the switch in the playoffs. I’m excited to see how far they will go.”
5. Utah Jazz
“The Jazz have been on a tear since the return of Rudy Gobert from injury. They’ll need him to control the paint against OKC’s Big 3 to have a chance in Round 1.
6. New Orleans Pelicans
“Anthony Davis has taken his game to a whole new level after Demarcus Cousins tore his Achilles. He’s going to have to remain dominant to carry the Pels through the playoffs.”
7. San Antonio Spurs
“The Spurs just don’t have it this season. Kawhi is out and it’s uncertain if he’ll return for the playoffs, which doesn’t bode well for San Antonio who definitely needs him to win.”
8. Minnesota Timberwolves
“The Timberwolves are in the playoffs for the first time since 2004…but they face the Rockets in Round 1. Sadly, they have no chance. Better luck next year, fellas.”
