I’m officially obsessed with Hydrafacial and the rest of the world is starting to catch on too! It was essential in prepping my skin before my wedding. I’ve had two treatments so far with Erica at Orangetwist in Newport Beach, Ca and am beyond pleased with the results. After the very first treatment I noticed a difference in my skin, it looked cleaner, brighter and was just glowing.
Their website specifically defines it as, “the HydraFacial treatment removes dead skin cells and extracts impurities while simultaneously bathing the new skin with cleansing, hydrating and moisturizing serums.”
This treatment is ideal for men and women of any age and targets a range of skin disorders, including but not limited to dry or dehydrated skin, oily or acne prone skin, hyper-pigmentation and sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles.
The Treatment
The first step – Cleanse and Peel
Erica begins by cleansing and exfoliating your skin to prepare it for maximum absorption of the essential products that will hydrate your skin. She then uses a tool that feels like a spinning toothbrush head on your skin that washes away all of the makeup and debris on the top layer of your skin. Next she puts on a thin layer of a combination glycolic and salcylic acid peel. This is super helpful because it will heal any current breakouts and prevent future ones from popping up!
The second step – Extract and Hydrate
This is the best step in my opinion. Erica uses a new tool called the “vortex-extraction nozzle” that quite literally acts as a vacuum, sucking out all of the dirt and excess oil stuck in your pores. This is where you get that deep cleaning feeling. I tend to get a lot of clogged pores on my forehead that create these little bumps that I can feel when washing my face everyday. This step alleviated all those bumps.
At the end of the treatment, they will show you what comes out of your skin during the extraction process…it’s gross but oddly satisfying knowing that your skin has been rid of all that gunk.
After this, Erica used a pair of BLUE LED lights on my chin area which helps to kill the acne causing bacteria. I don’t know about the rest of you ladies, but I ALWAYS breakout on my chin. I know that area is tied to hormones so many women suffer from the dreaded chin acne.

The third step – Fuse and Protect
This step uses the vortex-fusion tool which infuses an antioxidant and Hyaluronic acid serum into the skin to promote elasticity and hydration. They also have “boosters” which are potent medical grade serums that you can add based on your skincare needs. I already loved the ZO line by Dr. Zein Obaji so I was so happy to see that they created a line specifically for the Hydrafacial treatment. Erica used the Brightalive Booster Serum which is designed to brighten skin, reduce discoloration and even skin tone.
***Disclaimer*** if you do indeed go see Erica, be prepared to fall asleep at various times in the treatment due to an intensely relaxing facial massage. As she’s applying certain products, she will give you a facial massage that feels SO good. 🙂
Post Treatment
Right after the treatment my face is usually a little red due to the extractions and deep exfoliation but that calms down in about 20 minutes. Afterwards my skin felt plump, hydrated and glowing.

If you live in California, I highly recommend Orangetwist (specifically Newport Beach so you can see Erica) because they have a monthly membership called the Citrus Club. For $125 a month you get a complimentary monthly Hydrafacial and special membership pricing on their other treatments – Botox, Fillers, Ultherapy (skin tightening), Laser treatments (Fraxel, IPL, Clear and Brilliant) and Coolsculpting! Stay tuned because I’ll be writing a post on how awesome Coolsculping is.

As I said before, the Hydrafacial was an essential part of my wedding prep. I honestly can say that my skin looked completely flawless on my wedding day and that is largely due to the immense benefits of the Hydrafacial!
